Why Winter Is the Best Time to Test for Radon
As temperatures drop and homes are sealed tight against the cold, winter creates the perfect conditions for testing radon levels. Radon is a colorless, odorless gas that can seep into homes through cracks in the foundation. Since we keep windows and doors closed during the winter, radon levels can become more concentrated, making it the ideal time to test.
Exposure to high levels of radon over time is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The only way to know if your home has elevated radon levels is through testing. Winter provides the most accurate reading since ventilation is at a minimum and indoor air is more contained.
